Posted: Sunday 7th July 2024
With the news that the Labour Party have triumphed in the 2024 General Election and Keir Starmer will be taking over as Prime Minister, all eyes have turned to their manifesto and how they plan to deliver their promises.
Here are some of the key items affecting house buyers;
- 1.5 million new homes to be built during the next parliament
- Restore mandatory housebuilding targets
- additional planning officers to be funded
- maximise land availability by prioritising brownfield land and releasing 'grey belt' areas
- build a generation of new towns alongside urban extensions and regeneration projects
- new planning powers and housing grant funding flexibilities for combined authorities
- reform compulsory purchase compensation rules to improve land assembly, speed up site delivery, and deliver housing, infrastructure, amenity, and transport benefits in the public interest
- take steps to ensure more high-quality, well-designed, and sustainable homes are being built
- strengthen planning obligations to ensure new developments provide more affordable homes
- make changes to the Affordable Homes Programme "to ensure that it delivers more homes from existing funding"
- introduce a permanent, comprehensive mortgage guarantee scheme, to support first-time buyers
- work with local authorities to give first-time buyers the first chance to buy homes
With all this to come over the next generation, it's an exciting time for both house builders and buyers and Foreman Homes are here to support you every step of the way.
