Ashurst Planning Permission Granted
Posted: Thursday 18th April 2024
We are delighted to announce that we have received full planning permission for a new site in Ashurst. Sitting on the edge of the national park area, Ashurst is often referred to as the 'gateway to the New Forest' with an abundance of historical sites and woodland nearby that our new residents will be able to enjoy.
Our planning team has been working closely with Thrive Architects on the design of our new site which will deliver 62 dwellings with a new village green situated in the centre for VIVID Homes. The new development will offer a range of apartments, 2 & 3 bedroom semi-detached and 3 bedroom detached homes.
The majority of our properties are designed to look outwards meaning homes on the perimeter of the site will have a view of the surrounding forest and greenery while those nearer the centre will look over the village green. This has come to fruition through a careful consultation process involving experts with local knowledge who suggested a design that avoided narrow streets and rows of houses to keep in design with the existing style and aesthetic of Ashurst. The houses themselves, along with their materials palette, have been through a thorough design process as we have received encouragement throughout to ensure that the properties are respectful to their national park setting drawing inspiration from all that the local surroundings have to offer. At Foreman Homes, we pride ourselves on our developments and ensure that placemaking is at the forefront of all that we do.
This design will also better afford ecological mitigation, protecting the night sky from undue streetlight illumination and allowing for better management of surface water drainage. We will also be putting funding towards the improvement of a local recreation ground that visitors to the area will be able to enjoy for years to come.
The site for our development was allocated within the council's adopted local plan which set the key rules that we needed to adhere to when considering the site's layout. These included a requirement for 50% of the homes to be affordable housing for residents in the local area along with a limitation on the maximum dwelling size allowed. These, along with a requirement to protect the local woodland, will help to ensure that the natural history and heritage of the New Forest location are protected as much as possible.
Thanks to the hard effort and countless hours logged in the design and application of the project, we were delighted to receive a unanimous decision from the Councillors to permit the scheme when it came before them.
Once again, we are pleased to confirm that we will be partnering with VIVID, a leading provider of affordable homes and extensive support services in the South of England, having worked with them across a number of our developments previously to provide support and customer care for our affordable home customers.
We are always looking for further land opportunities across Hampshire and the surrounding counties. Please contact us with any opportunities at land@foremanhomes.co.uk
